    Description:

    International Spanish Language Academy (“ISLA”) a K-6 Spanish-immersion charter school, 501 (c) (3) and International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, opened its doors in September 4, 2007. In nine years, ISLA has grown from 71 students to 299 students and is now located in its permanent facility, in Minnetonka, MN. ISLA employs 13 classroom teachers, additional specialist staff, paraprofessionals, office staff, and has a strong Language Ambassador (Amity Interns) program. Among only a handful of schools in Minnesota, ISLA was the proud recipient of the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award in 2013.  ISLA has a tradition of fiscal responsibility, strong parental involvement, volunteerism, and a very active and supportive PTO.

    Job Summary: 
    The Executive Director is responsible for carrying out and advancing the ISLA mission, vision, and strategic plan of the school.  The Executive Director position is charged with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the school.  The position is also responsible for ensuring that  (i) ISLA appropriately fulfills its commitment to providing high-quality, total Spanish immersion education, and (ii) the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is operating effectively.  

               

    The Executive Director has the important role and responsibility of hiring, developing, and retaining a competent staff.  This involves creating a work environment and culture that attracts the best possible candidates, developing specific strategies to support and facilitate professional development of teachers, maintaining the native and near-native fluency of ISLA’s teacher population, and developing a cohesive administrative and teaching team at ISLA.  The Executive Director reports to ISLA’s Board of Directors.

    Position Requirements:

    • Minnesota Elementary Principal License or ability to obtain.
    • Candidate will have a Master’s degree, preferably in Education Administration.
    • Demonstrated success in educational leadership.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Spanish fluency, bilingual fluency, or equivalent multi-lingual experience.
    • A well-developed personal philosophy of elementary education and educational administration consistent with the MN Department of Education.
    • Knowledge of and affinity for the philosophy and practices of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
    • Knowledge or experience of total language immersion concept.
    • Demonstrated experience and ability to be a strong advocate for Spanish language and culture.
    • A thorough and practical understanding of:
      • Professional development planning and implementation to reflect all areas of the IB and immersion curriculum.
      • Collaborative leadership.
      • Current educational state statutes, Common Core, and the strategic implementation of Response To Intervention.
      • Reflective practice and implementation of curriculum and development surrounding IDEA, anti-bullying, Responsive Classroom, and equity education.
      • State and federal laws and regulations affecting elementary education.
    • Demonstrated experience to properly administer and monitor all public charter school finances, including operating the school with a positive fund balance.
    • Ability to creatively champion IBO PYP and full immersion within ISLA and community.    
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with Board, peers, staff, parents, and community, including a willingness and ability to speak passionately for public education as a whole and ISLA specifically.
    • Demonstrated leadership presence and ability to navigate and mediate between various viewpoints and bring people together around a common understanding of what is best for the school.

    Contract / Salary: Regionally competitive and dependent on experience
